PRINCIPLES

What nearbound social actually is

In the Who Economy, social media is not just a way to get to market.

It’s a way to live in market.

Nearbound social engages your customer’s attention and intention without disrupting their daily lives.

It does this by focusing more on who the message is coming from than how it’s delivered.

TACTICS

How to wield social proof’s gravitational pull

*This section of The Daily is inspired by Jared Fuller’s Nearbound and the Rise of the Who EconomyGet your copy today.*

Brands often underestimate social proof’s gravitational pull.

They tap into partners for clumsy product plugs instead of leveraging partners as relays to amplify your signal across their trusted networks.

Decades ago, Robert Cialdini first codified the core tenets of social proof as a phenomenon in which people look to others for guidance and follow the masses when they lack sufficient information to judge a situation.

Wielding social proof skillfully is a difficult task, reserved for the most interconnected individuals.

To wield social proof, you must:

  1. Align with your Marketing department’s rhythm of business.
Understand your Marketing department’s content engine and schedule. What existing or upcoming content can you layer partner expertise into?

  2. Keep focus in your message and your aligned narrative.
Align with Marketing on the best way to spotlight partners in these content pieces. How does your message align with their expertise?

  3. Make it easy for partners to share.
Spotlighting partners is one thing, but you must also capitalize on the spotlight—help them share it with dates, assets, pre-written posts, and recommendations for posting.

Social proof fuels a flywheel effect.

You spotlight partners, expanding their reach and brand. Reciprocally, their promotion attracts new followers to your ecosystem.
